Beyond InfraDev was appointed by King Cetshwayo district municipality to implement their Non-Revenue Water (NRW) Reduction Program in May 2017. The project duration is 3 years covering all the local municipalities under the King Cetshwayo District Municipality (KCDM), i.e. uMfolozi, uMlalazi, Mthonjaneni and Nkandla, with an estimated total population served of 907 519. The program focuses on all the water reticulation pipelines (bulk & distribution), water pump stations, reservoirs, standpipes, meters, valves, etc. The objective for the NRW Reduction Program is to reduce the level of NRW in the King Cetshwayo District Municipality area of supply from it’s current levels of 47% by volume to approximately 35.2%.

The NRW reduction program covers planning, design and implementation of NRW Reduction strategies to achieve the project objectives. The overall NRW Reduction program includes WC/WDM awareness campaigns, capacity building, development of real & apparent loss reduction policies, development and implementation of operations and maintenance plans, asset management plans and rehabilitation plans, evaluation of condition of deteriorating infrastructure, pressure management (design, installation and commissioning of new PRVs & installation of advanced controlled on selected PRVs), planned mains replacement program, mains and reticulation leak detection surveys and repairs, domestic plumbing retro-fitting programs, metered municipal consumption – install GSM loggers, ensure that all are, improve on data transfer between reading and billing, calibrate all meters and installation of domestic meters.

The project has assisted in creating jobs for the local people in the KCDM area. The project employed an excess of 300 people in different areas. The project is also contributing to the local economy through offering contracts for local construction companies and various local service providers.

Steve Tshwete Local Municipality has appointed Beyond InfraDev for the upgrade of the Boskrans Waste Water Treatment Works (WWTW). The upgrades include the designs of the following;

• The 25Ml/d Biological Nutrient Removal (BNR) reactor with associated Secondary Settling Tanks (SST’s) and Return Activated Sludge (RAS) Pump Station,
• The Chlorine Tank,
• Associated pipework and minor works required to interface the existing and new works to render the whole Works functional in order to produce the desired effluent quality
• Construction monitoring of the upgrades of the maturation ponds at Boskrans WWTW.

The upgrades shall extend capacity of the treatment plant to 45Ml/d. The initial estimate of the total upgrades are estimated to have a construction value of over R400 million once completed. Boskrans WWT is the only sewage treatment for the whole population of Middelburg servicing a population of approximately 308 099 people living in 102 700 households. The upgrades of the treatment are aimed at ensuring that Middelburg can be able to cope with the rapid growth of the population which in turn increases wastewater flows from the town of Middelburg. This shall improve the sanitation service delivery backlogs for all communities under Steve Tshwete Local Municipality.

City of Ekurhuleni appointed for the provision of geotechnical professional services on an “as and when” required basis. The project covers all areas of dolomite related risk management, aimed at geohazard management, particularly in dolomite areas within the City of Ekurhuleni. The project duration is 3 years. The project scope encompasses dolomite stability/ geotechnical assessments, sinkhole/subsidence assessments, design, rehabilitation works, inspections, peer review assessments, maintenance recommendations, and responding to township applications telated to dolomitic services.

The services offered benefit the City of Ekurhuleni to manage the risks and threats posed by the presence of dolomites within a vast expanse of the City. It ensures that the city does not run out of developmental space due to dolomite by managing the risks posed by dolomites. Beyond InfraDev is also involved in the skills transfer to the City of Ekurhuleni as also empowering local contractors in the rehabilitation of the dolomite incidences throughout the city.

Rand Water awarded Beyond InfraDev a 3 year contract for Third Party Quality Inspection and Assurance in March 2016. The project covers third party quality inspections and assurance for all Rand Water pipeline construction projects as well as ensuring quality in all pipelines manufactured by different service providers for Rand Water. The appointment has since been extended by a further 3 years.

Third party quality inspection services are offered in the following areas;

• Welding inspections
• Coating & lining inspections
• Pipe manufacturing visual inspections
• Loading supervision, and
• Civil construction inspections

Inyati InfraDev, a subsidiary of Beyond InfraDev has been appointed by Rand Water, in a joint venture partnership with Delmon Mining & Civils, for the construction of the S4 and F49 pipelines. The works for both pipelines involve earthworks, pipe laying, jacking, and associated civil works. Pipeline S4 is a 16.68km and 1800mm diameter steel pipe. The pipeline starts from Van Dyk Park to Vlakfontein Area. On completion the pipelines shall ensure that Rand Water improves water service delivery to the communities that the pipelines traverse.

The two pipelines shall form part of Rand Water’s network distribution that is in excess of 3 300 kilometers of large diameter pipelines servicing metrpolitan municipalities, local municipalities, mines and industries. Rand Water supplies an average 3 900 million litres of water to its customers daily to more than 11 million people in Gauteng, parts of Mpumalanga, Free State and North west.

These are landmark projects for Inyati InfraDev as they are pioneer projects and would greatly improve the CIDB grading for the company as well as improve the skills set for the business.

Beyond InfraDev was commissioned by Rand Water to undertake An Integrated Asset Management Assessment study for the Eikenhof Region, i.e. approximately 960km of various pipelines and appurtenant infrastructure. The study/ appointment was over a 3-year period. The need for an advanced assessment study particularly for steel pipelines was required to prioritize the bulk distribution pipelines for a replacement/refurbishment programme. The scope of work for the infrastructure condition assessments surveys entailed the following;

• Assessing the operation status of the Cathodic Protection systems installed to protect the pipelines against external corrosion by conducting a period pipeline potential survey
• Assessing the condition of steel pipeline structure – GUL
• Evaluate the condition of the external environment – ECDA
• Assessing the condition of the lining – ILI
• Confirming the extent and pinpointing the location of leaks – ILI
• Confirming the hydraulic operating conditions and performance of pipeline systems – Hydraulic Modelling, and
• Producing engineering evaluation reports

The project assisted Rand Water to establish the asset base, determine the condition of its pipelines and associated assets, determine the remaining useful life of the pipelines, establish maintenance and refurbishment budgets, prioritise its pipeline project through a risk assessment and develop an asset management system for storing data as well as management of its assets. The project also created employment for over 200 people in the Gauteng region and was undertaken with several partners for Beyond InfraDev.
